Making it Official
It had been very easy for Carl and Malia to feel settled in Hidden Springs. It was a beautiful little city; so lush and green, within minutes you were in the foothills of the mountains that bounded the valley. Yet, even though the mountains were so close it never felt hemmed in, even in the centre of the city itself there was a wonderful feeling of spaciousness.
It would have surprised his parents, and his sister, to discover that it was Carl who took the 'office' job and Malia was one to stay home to create her own little home industry. Well, not really an industry as such, but a productive, and profitable gardening business from the yard of their cottage.
Although Carl still enjoyed writing, he found that making discoveries and finding new ways to exploit technology in the real world was even more exciting than just imagining and writing about them!
Set on the outskirts of the city, nestling against the edges of the hills, the delightful log cabin on Cottonwood Crescent was just perfect.
As lovely as it was during the day (and that is very lovely!), being that little bit secluded meant it was a great spot for watching the stars in the night sky.
One night, in the fading warmth of a late summer evening, the slow spin of the constellations was enhanced by a small shower of fast moving and brightly burning shooting stars.
It was the perfect moment for Carl to tell Malia how much he loved her.
As if Malia needed telling, she knew Carl was devoted to her, and she felt the same way about him.
But, this time, as Malia was about to wrap her arms around him, Carl slipped out of her grasp to kneel in front of her, pulling a small box from his pocket...
...
"Malia Norwood, light of my life, holder of my dreams, will you marry me?"
Carl was delighted to see that his question got a very positive response!
"Yes, Yes, Yes!"
...
As the warmth left the air, and they retreated to the comfort of their modest home, the pair could not stop smiling.
Not as they sleep, and not even when they awoke the following day. There's something about being deliciously, deliriously, happy that keeps your mouth shaped into a permanent smile!
